With familiar PC controls in place, I opened up the Ubisoft Connect website to download the client, but hit a snag. That’s great, but the next issue to overcome is where is the keyboard? Another online search revealed a press of the Steam Button + X opens and closes the keyboard. The left touch pad click serves as right click. Once in desktop mode, the right touch pad is a suitable mouse with the click serving as left mouse button. Turns out, holding the power button displays the necessary menu option to open desktop mode. In order to even start that process, I had to search on how to get to desktop mode. Getting Started with Ubisoft Connect on Steam Deckįirst step was downloading the Ubisoft Connect client. There were plenty of those extra steps, but now it’s fairly simple to setup the next game. With that value proposition and the length of Assassin’s Creed games, it’s worth some extra steps to get Ubisoft Connect up and running on my Steam Deck. If it takes less than 6 months to get through the AC Origins content, I’ve already saved money. Even now, the full game is $60 and the season pass is $40. For the $15 per month I pay now, I have access to all Ubisoft games and all DLC. It’s easy enough to buy a game on Steam, but my Ubisoft Connect Plus subscription less expensive in the long run. Controller profiles and graphic settings are also usually sorted out automatically, especially for those in “Verified” status. The verification status of the game is clear with any caveats listed for those not at “Verified” status (like hard to read text or launcher required). With the Steam Deck, it’s easier to buy the game on Steam. Sure I could buy AC Origins on Steam and have a mostly frictionless experience, but I wanted to figure out the whole Ubisoft Connect Plus on Steam Deck thing. This assumption was due to a comment made by company president and CEO Yves Guillemot to investors when he said the Epic Games Store offered "materially better terms." Guillemot added that Epic's store also increased "player exposure" to the firm's own store.After finishing up God of War on Steam Deck, I wanted to setup AC Origin via Ubisoft Connect on my Steam Deck. Ubisoft didn't provide additional color on its decision to skip Steam back then however, it's thought one of the reasons was it took issue with the revenue split. ![]() The last Ubisoft game to release on the platform was Trials Rising back in 2019, with the company opting instead to release newer titles, such as The Division 2, through its Connect platform and the Epic Games Store. Ubisoft stopped selling its new releases on Steam back in 2019 due to what it deemed an “unrealistic” business model that didn't "reflect where the world is today in terms of game distribution." The spokesperson added the three games are "among the Ubisoft titles that will be releasing on Steam," leading one to believe more are on the way. ![]() Per a statement sent to multiple outlets including Eurogamer, a Ubisoft spokesperson said the company is "constantly evaluating" how it brings games to players while "providing a consistent player ecosystem through Ubisoft Connect." ![]() ![]() 15 years of Assassin’s Creed: why there’s never been a better time to replay the first game This news may not come as much of a surprise considering a couple of weeks ago, backend data found on Ubisoft Connect suggested as much. Anno 1800 and Roller Champions will follow at a later date. Ubisoft has announced its PC games will return to Steam starting on December 6 with Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
